Dr. Goddess is the artistic persona of Dr. Kimberly C. Ellis, a scholar, poet, playwright, performer, speaker and cultural storyteller whose work explores identity, history, power, love, liberation and social change.

Blending scholarship with performance, Dr. Goddess brings ideas to life through poetry, theater, storytelling and public engagement. Her acclaimed one-woman show, Dr. Goddess, toured across the United States and established her distinctive voice as an artist who moves fluidly between the academy, the stage and the community.

Her work has taken her around the world, with performances and cultural engagements in Toronto, Dubai, Switzerland, South Africa and Ghana, as well as throughout the United States.

 

On Stage

Dr. Goddess is the writer and performer of Dr. Goddess, her signature one-woman show combining poetry, storytelling, humor, history and personal reflection.

​

She later wrote Dr. Goddess Goes to Jail, an ensemble theatrical production expanding the Dr. Goddess universe through a full, ensemble production with multiple voices, characters and perspectives.

​

Her latest theatrical work, AfroRoma: A Love Story, continues her exploration of Black life, culture, memory, history and human connection.

Poetry

Poetry is at the heart of Dr. Goddess.

Her poems have been performed on stage, recorded as part of her artistic work and collected in her Dr. Goddess poetry book. Through poetry, she examines the personal and the political, the sacred and the sensual, the ancestral and the contemporary.
